A college success and support program for first-generation Latinx students in their first and second years of college
The Avanzando through College program supports first-generation Latinx students to achieve success in their first and second years of college.
Through team building activities, workshops and events, participants:
Develop skills and knowledge to better navigate the college-going experience
Expand their networks and meet students from different colleges and universities in the Metro Area
Receive one-on-one support from program staff
Have a stronger chance of finishing college
As an incentive, active participants receive a $500 stipend at the end of the year.
The program runs on the school calendar (September – May). Workshops are held biweekly on Zoom, on Tuesday evenings from 6-7:30pm.
What I’ve most enjoyed about Avanzando is the opportunity to think about my future and how I can better myself.
The program has given me an opportunity to learn skills that help me be successful both in and out of school. It’s helped me to be intentional about my plans for the year and the check-ins and accountability from program staff has been good motivation to stay on track. I’ve learned real life skills that you’re not taught in school that will help me in school and will continue to help me post-graduation when I become a teacher.
