CLUES is proud to present our Logros Tempranos Spring Cohort of 2025, comprising 20 of the 28 graduates.

Logros Tempranos is a CLUES initiative launched in 2022 aimed at FFN (family, friends, neighbors) child care providers who take care of children ages 0-5 in their community for more than five hours per week. However, they do more than watch over these children. Our FFN providers are childhood educators and entrepreneurs.

During their time in the Logros Tempranos program, our participants committed to over 30 hours of pre-licensing training, including courses such as Supervising for Safety, Sudden Unexpected Infant Death & Abusive Head Trauma, and Health and Safety 1&2. They also committed to attending our Adult & Pediatric CPR training, which was provided in Spanish, with our Red-Cross trained instructors.

Logros Tempranos participants have access to the following resources: one-on-one support navigation, access to transportation and technological assistance, as well as content provided in Spanish by culturally competent staff and trainers. After their time in the Logros Tempranos program, graduates and participants also become a part of our larger FFN & Child Care provider network, where we send events, resources, and more!

Upon graduating, our Logros Tempranos graduates are eligible to start the pre-licensing process to obtain their license to start their own in-home family child care. The process of applying for and receiving your child care license in MN can be daunting. This process overall may take anywhere from 6 months and up to a year and, in some cases, their application may be rejected, meaning they would have to begin the process all over again.

Becoming licensed to start your own in-home family childcare in Minnesota can be an intensive process. Here are the steps that providers must take in order to start the licensing process. First, they must attend the child care orientation in the county that they are planning to open their in-home family child care. After they complete that requirement, they must complete the application packet. During the pre-licensing process, they will need to take the pre-licensing courses, which, if they are a part of the Logros Tempranos program, they would have met those requirements. Then, they would need to complete a background study conducted by the state, which would include the applicant, as well as anyone 14+ who resides in the home. They would also have to have at least three references. The place where they would be using for the childcare space would also need to undergo a firefighter inspection to ensure it is up to code, according to MN Child Care regulations. Then they would need to schedule a meeting with their county’s licensor. Finally, they will receive notice regarding the status of their application.

Since the Logros Tempranos program launch in 2022, over 100 participants have taken advantage of these intensive trainings provided by CLUES, with 94 of them graduating over the last four years of programming. From these graduates, six Logros Tempranos graduates have gone on to become licensed family child care providers.
