CLUES is pleased to welcome Hannah Novillo Erickson as its new Associate Director of Arts and Cultural Engagement.
Hannah Novillo Erickson comes to CLUES with an extensive background in arts administration, curating, and community engagement. Hannah most recently worked as Associate Curator at the Minnesota Historical Society, building equity in the State’s historic collections by fostering strong relationships with communities whose narratives have been historically marginalized.
Previously Hannah was Artist Coordinator of Public Art and Placemaking at the Hennepin Theater Trust in Minneapolis, where she worked with artists and built relationships with community and area organizations.
As an independent curator, Hannah has organized art installations, exhibits, and programming for organizations in the Twin Cities and San Francisco Bay Area. She has a MA in Curatorial Practice from California College of the Arts and a BA in Sociocultural Anthropology from the University of Minnesota. Some of Hannah’s new initiatives will include building an artist-driven advisory committee, continuing to develop Latinx artist-centered place-keeping initiatives, and expanding the use of the CLUES Latinx Art Gallery.
“We have steered our work at CLUES beyond transactional service delivery to a more intentional form of transformational impact. As we are expanding our work to engage the Latino community to develop community-driven solutions that address inequities in housing, health, education, and economic opportunities, we are also laser-focused on expanding our arts and cultural capital,” said CLUES President and CEO, Ruby Azurdia-Lee. “Our motto ‘La Cultura Cura/Culture Helps you Heal’ is centered on arts and cultural traditions being the engine that helps us build community, define new narratives, and drive empowerment and systemic change for our community. We are excited to welcome Hannah and look forward to supporting her as she builds her own authentic mark on our community and at CLUES,” stated Ruby Azurdia-Lee.
“I am delighted to join this dynamic team of leaders here at CLUES in reclaiming our narratives as Latinx people and centering social and racial justice,” said incoming Associate Director, Hannah Novillo Erickson. “Throughout my background as an art curator I have often revisited the root of the word ‘curate/curar’, and with the CLUES motto ‘La Cultura Cura’ I knew I have found an organization with the same passion. I strongly believe that to curate is to take care, and it is my mission in life and in this position to care for our culture bearers in the community – many of whom identify as artists.”
Hannah is a second-generation mixed Ecuadorian living in South Minneapolis with her husband, Travis and pet dog, Maeby.
