Julia is a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) who is trained and working towards certification in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Originally from California, Julia moved to the Twin Cities after she earned dual Master’s degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Social Welfare, focusing on Child and Family Wellbeing, and Public Policy, specializing in Latinx Immigration and Community Health Policy. She received her Bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Spanish Studies from American University in Washington, DC. Her professional journey includes roles in case management, care coordination, policy research and advocacy, nonviolent parenting support groups, Wraparound services, and, most recently, intensive in-home child and family therapy.
Julia centers compassion, justice, and collaboration in her practice, aiming to provide a therapeutic experience where clients feel seen, heard, valued, and challenged. She specializes in family and individual therapy with children, adolescents, and adults as they navigate complex trauma, depression, identity and attachment issues, anxiety, family conflict, mood or personality disorders, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Julia employs relational, ecological-systemic, and critical race theories and integrates an array of therapeutic modalities—such as motivational interviewing, trauma-informed therapy, interpersonal therapy, family systems therapy, narrative therapy, play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and strengths-based and person-centered therapy—to support her clients.
Recognizing her diverse roles as a social worker—advocate, facilitator, mediator, and therapist—Julia endeavors to support transformation, growth, and healing for individuals, communities, and larger systems and institutions. She aims to create a safe and nurturing environment where clients can explore and confront their traumas and challenges, allowing them to embrace their full spectrum of emotions and experiences, and fostering personal growth and resilience.
Outside of work, Julia enjoys cooking for friends and family, creating collage art and pottery, dancing samba and flamenco, participating in book clubs, and hiking with her partner and dogs.
