CLUES Arts & Culture is excited to present our annual Day of the Dead event for 2024! This vibrant celebration honors our rich heritage and the indigenous cultures of the Americas, inviting everyone to remember loved ones and celebrate life.
In this spirit, we are proud to use art to build community and honor our traditions. This year, on Saturday, November 2 from 12-3 p.m., we will offer four engaging art workshops to learn how to create Calavera paintings, Mini Altars, Catrina Face Painting, and Mini Alfombras. We will have a community altar where everyone is invited to participate by bringing a photograph of a loved one, a photo booth, live music from a Mexican regional group, traditional Morelos dance, Aztec dancers, and a procession of alebrijes and mojigangas puppets. In addition, Latin restaurants at the Midtown Global Market will offer food “specials” including Pan de Muerto (bread of the dead) and Hot Chocolate.

The Latine artist, Gustavo Boada is creating vibrant alebrijes and mojinganga sculptures/puppets at the studio space in the Midtown Global Market through the end of October. During this time, Gustavo will host open studio hours where visitors can drop in and participate in the creation of these large-scale sculptures. This hands-on art workshop is open to the community of all ages, with instruction available in both English and Spanish.
The completed sculptures/puppets will be featured at an indoor procession at the Midtown Global Market during our Day of the Dead event.
