This week, April 18-24, is National Volunteer Week! Each day we’ll be sharing about the wonderful volunteers who make our work possible.
Today’s volunteer in the spotlight is Dan Conley! In 2020 Dan volunteered with CLUES for the first time as a co-teacher in our evening Adult ESL program. “Dan didn’t have experience in teaching, but his varied life experiences and his strong desire to help our students learn, made him a perfect fit for our program. Initially he co-taught with a returning volunteer who mentored and encouraged him in all things ESL. In 2021 Dan recruited a new volunteer to join our team and fill his teammates spot and has now stepped into their shoes as the experienced teacher and mentor. We are very grateful to Dan for sharing his valuable time with us as a volunteer. It is volunteers like Dan Conley that make our program successful and a place where our students feel welcomed and appreciated,” said his supervisor Roz Johnson.
Here’s what Dan had to say about what CLUES means to him: “I began attending Spanish-English Meetup groups a couple of years ago to work on my Spanish. Those gatherings certainly helped improve my Spanish. But the far greater benefit to me was the support and friendship that was extended to me by the Latino community. My life has been enriched greatly and many of the people from those groups are now my friends. For me CLUES is an opportunity to say thank you and to give back in a very personal and meaningful way.”
Thank you for all you do, Dan! Stay tuned throughout the week for more volunteer spotlights.
